Welcome & Introduction Upon arrival, you will be greeted by a skilled calligraphy master who will introduce you to the art’s history and significance in Chinese culture. Learn about the evolution of Chinese characters, their role in traditional society, and how calligraphy was once a vital skill for scholars and poets. 2. The Four Treasures of Calligraphy You will be introduced to the essential tools of calligraphy, known as the Four Treasures of the Study (文房四宝): • Brush (毛笔) – The fundamental tool for creating elegant strokes. • Ink (墨) – Traditionally made from soot, mixed with water to achieve rich tones. • Inkstone (砚) – Used to grind solid ink into liquid form. • Rice Paper (宣纸) – Specially designed to absorb ink smoothly for artistic writing. Each guest will have their own set of tools for the session. 3. Hands-On Calligraphy Practice Under the guidance of the instructor, you will learn basic brush techniques, proper posture, and the correct stroke order for writing Chinese characters. Start with simple lines and curves before progressing to meaningful words or phrases, such as: • 福 (fú) – Good fortune • 爱 (ài) – Love • 和 (hé) – Harmony If desired, you can also try your hand at writing your own name in Chinese characters, making this a truly personalized experience. 4.
